=3= A personal favourite. What's not to like about this?
Title: ヒャッコ, Hyakko
Author: Katou Haruaki
Genre: Shounen, Comedy, Slice of Life
Serialized in: SoftBank Creative Flex Comic Blood
Total Volume Count: 5 (ongoing)
Summary from ANN:
On their first day of high school shy Nonomura Ayumi and taciturn Iizuka Tatsuki become lost on the immense campus of Kamizono Academy. An irresistible force of nature named Kageyama Torako accompanied by her best friend Saotome Suzume appears in front of them. Led, sometimes pushed, by Torako, the girls and their classmates work through problems of school, home and adolescence.Kenn's Comment: Gah. That summary from ANN sounded more like a book by J.D. Salinger than Hyakko. Though, it's probably better than the one on MangaUpdates by leaps and bounds.
Anywho, it's a favourite of mine because of the characters. It's got a fairly large cast, and most of them get almost equal amounts of time. There's not really an over-arching story line, being a depiction of everyday life and all, but most of the chapters are really entertaining. Or at least I thought so.
There was also an adaptation by Nippon Animation back in the fall season 2008, which would mean that it originally aired about 2 years ago from this season. It spanned about 3 volumes of manga, and was a pretty good adaptation I must say. I'm not sure how many people liked the added drama in the second last episode, and the almost unbearably boring final episode, but I thought it was a good run. Watched it long before I could recognize seiyuu by voice.
